Volunteers Needed for EWM Harvesting, August 3–7

1 min read

Diver Assisted Suction Harvesting (DASH) will return to Gilmore Lake August 3–7 to continue removing Eurasian watermilfoil (EWM) from targeted areas of the lake — and we need volunteers to help.

Volunteers will use kayaks, paddleboards or canoes to collect floating EWM fragments that escape during harvesting. Removing these fragments is important because even small pieces of EWM can take root and spread to new areas of the lake.

We hope to have 4–5 volunteers helping each day. You can volunteer for as much or as little time as your schedule allows.

Harvesting Schedule

Monday: 11 a.m.–6 p.m.

Tuesday: 7:30 a.m.–6 p.m.

Wednesday: 7:30 a.m.–6 p.m.

Thursday: 7:30 a.m.–6 p.m.

Friday: 7:30 a.m.–1 p.m.

Volunteers should bring their own watercraft. Kayaks, paddleboards and canoes work best, and large mesh collection bags will be provided. A loaner kayak and paddle are also available for anyone who would like to help but doesn’t have a watercraft.

Want to volunteer? Email the EWM management team with the day(s) and approximate times you’re available. Volunteers will receive additional information about where harvesting will take place.

Thank you for helping protect Gilmore Lake from the spread of Eurasian watermilfoil.
