The State of the Lake is Good

Gilmore Lake is known for its excellent water quality, clarity and healthy fishery. Regular monitoring over the past 20 years shows the lake remains in very good condition, preserving the lake's natural beauty and providing many opportunities for recreation.

Water clarity on Gilmore Lake typically ranges from 10 to 14 feet, allowing sunlight to penetrate deep into the water while maintaining the clear, blue appearance residents and visitors enjoy. Healthy oxygen levels, balanced plant growth and relatively low nutrient concentrations all contribute to the lake's excellent condition.

Why Gilmore Lake is So Healthy

Gilmore Lake is classified as a mesotrophic lake, meaning it has a moderate amount of naturally occurring nutrients.

Think of lakes as falling into three general categories:

OLIGOTROPHIC

Low Nutrients

Very clear, low nutrients, often cold and less productive for fishing.

MESOTROPHIC

Moderate Nutrients

Moderate nutrients, clear water, healthy fish populations and excellent recreation.
